Thanksgiving Dinner

That went fairly well, I think. I'm rather pleased with myself, actually; I made no less than three dishes I'd never attempted before. Quiche Lorraine wasn't too much of a stretch; I've made plenty of quiches before, but I haven't done anything with bacon in a long time. Waldorf salad was a snap - just chopping celery and apples and tossing them together with pecan halves. (No marshmallows or Jell-O, thank you!) The interesting part of that was the homemade dressing, which was pleasantly tart - lots of lemon juice. The coconut (not coconut cream) pie was completely new to me. I made a couple of rookie mistakes with it, resulting in some spillage - I'm not looking forward to cleaning the oven! It all tasted pretty good, though the quiche was once again a little runny. Also, I made too much of the dressing. Guess I'll have to fix some more of the salad...
Thankfulness... well, as ever, I'm quite happy with my personal situation. I'm reasonably healthy; I have a good job, and one which I love; my dogs are happy and (for their ages) healthy, and still frisky - they were romping all over the living room this morning. (Murphy went outside by himself again today. I had to help him come back in, but he must be feeling better!) Also, the baseball and football teams I root for have been doing well. Beyond the personal... well, let's not get into that; I'll just say that I'm more hopeful than I have been in quite a while.
To those of you who celebrate the day, Happy Thanksgiving; to all, may the days and months to come give you reason to be thankful (or at least happy)!

Date: 2006-11-24 03:32 pm (UTC)Glad it went well. It reminds me how little I've cooked in that last couple of years...one day I'll have to get back into it. I had lots of fun making the pumpkin pies last weekend, I hope they're good tomorrow!
Nice to hear your dogs are doing better these days!!
Have a good weekend! Enjoy the leftover dressing!

Date: 2006-11-25 02:35 am (UTC)Yeah, I've just recently gotten back into it - and even now only in fits and starts; I'll make a big dish one week, then spend two or three subsisting on cereal and sandwiches. But it's... satisfying... to make something tasty that you've never tried before.

Date: 2006-11-24 09:29 pm (UTC)I'm so glad to hear that the Boyz are doing well this week. Frisky is an improvement, for sure!
I once again toyed with my greenbean casserole recipe. In place of cream of mushroom soup, I used cream of asparagus. While stirring, I thought, hmmmm, curry would be good here, so dumped a bunch in. It ended up being delicious, as did the dishes the rest of the family made.
We feel very grateful for all our blessings, as well.
Enjoy your leftovers!

(Oh, and thanks for the e-card; it was very nice.)
