I suppose that, if you're going to come down with a cold, it's better to do so on a weekend than during the work week. :hack sniff:

My discontent is mitigated by the arrival of my latest booty from Amazon. Contents:

Marcus Rediker, Villains of All Nations, a history of early 18th century Atlantic piracy;
Erik Midelfort, Mad Princes of Renaissance Germany;
Robert Paxton, The Anatomy of Fascism;
Gregory Maguire, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West;
Robert Charles Wilson, Spin;
S. M. Stirling, Dies the Fire;
Martin Gardner's Mathematical Games columns, collected on a single CD;
and two music CDs, Bela Fleck's Live Art and Kicks! by Paul Revere and the Raiders.

Fortunately, I don't have to be healthy to reorganize my musical playlists. :kaff kaff:

Oh, dear! I hope it's just allergies and doesn't blossom into a full-blown cold. Can you rid yourself of a cold over a weekend? You have good genes, if so!!

Sounds like a nice mix of treats. Yesterday, after learning that Julia Spenser-Fleming is NOT coming to speak at The Poisoned Pen, I raced off and bought her just-out All Mortal Flesh and Lois' The Sharing Knife. I'm pretty well set.

Feel better! Sending waves of healthy thoughts...

No, it's definitely a cold. My allergies don't hurt unless I skip my antihistamines for a day or so, and in that case the pain starts in my eyes, not the throat or sinuses.

This one flared up Friday afternoon; I'm hoping it'll be done with by Monday afternoon, but if need be I'll stay home then. I simply can't stay home Tuesday, though. (Both of my classes meet twice a week; if I miss two class sessions, that's the equivalent of a whole week - and I've already missed one session with my Tuesday-Thursday class.)

Then it must be time for my superhero, Vick's Vaporub, to the rescue!

I hope you can lick it by Mon. evening. It's terrible when you *have* to be there, no matter how ill. Good luck!

My spouse swears by that stuff. I swear *at* that stuff, because it stinketh muchly.

If the throat gets seriously sore, don't forget to gargle with hot, salty water with aspirin dissolved in it. It tastes disgusting [grody, to the max, fer shurr!], but is most efficacious [with all 5 vowels].

Heh. *I* swear by that stuff, and the Teflon Spouse has termed it an effective "Frank Repellent."

I hope he at least starts off his declaration, "Frankly, my dear, . . ." [weg]

I'm pretty much back to normal now (Thursday afternoon). Throat's still a little scratchy, but I can live with it.

Good to hear it! For the mildly scratchy throat, I recommend microwaved apple juice. It's quick to make, & warm & soothing going down.

I got back in harness Wednesday. My throat's still a little scratchy, but not so much as to make lecturing impossible.
