I finished off the pulao today. I'd been hoping to stretch it to five or even six days, but it only lasted four. Ah, well, it was good while it lasted. (And as the saying goes, "the best always comes last"...)
This semester, I'm getting a ride home Monday/Wednesday from a Korean colleague. Monday, on the ride home, we got to talking about Korean and USAn holidays. At one point, Thanksgiving came up, and I mentioned my habit of cooking something I'd never tried before every year on that day. She said, "You want a challenge? Something Korean?" I replied, "Well... if you can give me a recipe..." We briefly discussed my tastes, and she said she'd try to come up with something. I'm a little, mm, edgy about the prospect, but we'll see.
Yesterday, there was a package on my doorstep when I got home; I now have the Starburst DVDs of Seasons One through Three of "Farscape", plus the first two-thirds of Season Four. I need to get the final third, plus the "Peacekeeper Wars" mini-series, and I'll have the full set. I don't know when I'll have a chance to watch them, though; I'm currently going through the unaired episodes of "Wonderfalls".
I'm putting the finishing touches on a new paper, titled "On the Derivative of a Vertex Polynomial", and will be submitting it soon. I still haven't heard back about the two papers I sent in last year; I should probably noodge the editor.

Date: 2006-09-20 06:03 pm (UTC)The hottest food I've ever eaten in my life was Korean, and I was used to eating really hot Thai food. Pickled kimchee trimmed into the *shape* of a turkey, perhaps?
I am delighted with the Tivo Beast, but I have discovered sadly that Veronica Mars comes on Tuesdays at 8:00, the same time as the just-moved L&O:CI. Sigh. Only one show can be recorded at a time. I guess if we want to see it, I'll have to get past episodes through Blkbstr.
Good luck with your new paper. It is probably a good idea to see if the editor is awake...

I'm afraid Tom and I got sick of Farscape at the beginning of season 2. It just wasn't holding our attention at all, so we decided to give it a miss. Is it worth picking up again at a later point? Or do you think if we hated it at that point (well, actually bored by it), there's no hope for us? ;-)
Korean food can be really delicious! One of my co-grad students invited me over to her house for dinner one day and treated me to a traditional Korean dinner. It was DELICIOUS! And certainly seemed to be a lot of work to me. But very yummy!
Good luck with your paper! Boy, your field takes a lot longer to get to paper than mine...I'd definitely give the editor a polite, hello! ;-)

Date: 2006-09-23 12:06 pm (UTC)Cool! Thanks! I mentioned to Tom that we might just start watching again at those last episodes of Season 2 that you said were good. I mean, we know the characters/setup, I'm sure we could catch up.
But I'll wait until you get to them and post. Like you said, overall thoughts might help out! :-)
