Last night, for some reason, I wanted to recheck some details of the legend of Theseus. Normally I'd look it up in Hamilton, but my copy of Bulfinch was nearer at hand, so that was where I looked. After finding the information I wanted, I continued reading (of course), and came upon Bulfinch's declaration that "Theseus named his new city Athens, in honor of Minerva".

Just because the Romans identified their gods with those of the Greeks doesn't mean modern Westerners should do so - especially in such a nonsensical fashion as this!
