Album of the Week: Greatest Hits, Heart
Feb. 23rd, 2014 01:46 pmAlbum Title: Greatest Hits (Heart)
Why I Bought It: I already had two of their later albums - Bad Animals and Desire Walks On - and liked them a lot. This album consists of earlier work (with one exception, "Strong, Strong Wind"), and has no overlap with the albums I had, so I snapped it up.
What I Like (Hopeful): "Dog and Butterfly". A young woman, discouraged by life, consults an old wise man for advice. He tells her to watch a dog chasing a butterfly. This revives her spirits. It revives mine, too.
What I Like (Gettin' Together Again): "Strong, Strong Wind". I like this more for the sound than the content; the singer laments an earlier breakup, but tells her now-again lover that "it would take a strong, strong wind" to take her away again. Whatever; it sounds good.
Overall: Those two are the only songs that really delight me here, but the rest of the album is still pretty good: "Magic Man", "Barracuda", "Straight On", and a nice cover of "Tell It Like It Is" are particular standouts. I'm not crazy about "Little Queen", and I don't know what to make of "Bebe le Strange", but the rest of it's fine.
