Today was the annual interschool math contest at the university; as usual, I volunteered to serve as a judge. The Saturday bus schedule is different enough from the weekday that I made sure to check the MCT site, to verify the timing. Evidently, though, I didn't look closely enough. After the competition was over, I headed to the bus stop, in plenty of time (I thought).

Time passed.

More time passed.

I checked the clock on my Kindle; it was well past the time I'd thought the bus would come. One of the following happened: it didn't show up; I had the time wrong; or it had shown up but displayed the wrong route number (a possibility, because of the peculiarities of the Saturday schedule). What to do, what to do.... My event was just about the last to end, so nobody was around to mooch a ride from. (W had offered, but I had declined - the bus was good enough....) I could wait until an hour had passed, when the next #17 bus was due.

But it was a nice day: cool without being cold, only a light breeze, and no precip. I decided to take shank's mare. It's not that bad a walk; since they opened up Governor's Parkway, it's almost a straight shot from the entrance to the university to my place. It's not a short walk; the crow's-flight distance is a bit less than three miles, by the roads probably a bit more. I mentally divided it into five legs, so that I could comfort myself with "OK, that's three legs down...." My walking pace, when I'm alone, is pretty fast, and my stamina (though not compatible with running much, nowadays) is decent.

It took me just about an hour - no more than an hour five, tops. I was a bit tired, but not too much so. Not bad for a fella in his mid-fifties who doesn't exercise much....
