A Little Boasting
Jun. 26th, 2012 12:30 pmI just received word from the Moscow Mathematical Journal that my paper, "Classification of Simple Closed Geodesics on Rectangular Prisms", has been accepted for publication. They want some fairly significant revisions, but there's nothing particularly difficult about them - more illustrations, a clearer conclusion, and some discussion of the non-simple case (which is much harder). Here's the key graf from the referee's report:
:happy dance:
The author provides a full study of simple closed geodesics in the case of a rectangular prism (aka a box). It turns out that, dependingly on the shape of the prism, there may exist arbitrarily long (in the combinatorial sense) simple closed geodesics. The classification result is clear and all the proofs are absolutely elementary. If published, the article will, probably, have a wide circle of readers and it may stimulate college and even high school students to participate in a mathematical research. This is the main reason why I do recommend it for a publication in your journal. The italics are mine; those words are what please me most about the acceptance.
