Just now, as I was preparing for bed, Buster and Gracie both came dashing up to me, dancing for a moment and then racing to the back porch door. I assumed they wanted to be let out to do their business - I've been trying to habituate them to do that - so I followed and opened the door to the porch and then the door to the back yard. As I did, they shot past me, barking, and started racing around the yard. After a moment, I realized that there was a strong odor of skunk in the air.
Okay, that's it. I don't let them bark outside after 9 PM in any case, and I for damn sure don't want them outside if there's a skunk around. I called them back in; I swear I saw two dogs shoot past me into the house. I closed the door and came back to give them each a treat.
Gracie wasn't there; I went back to the porch and saw her outside, dancing to be let in. I opened the door for her and gave her her Beggin' Strip.
Either she came in, shot back out via the doggie door, and came around to the porch again; or, I was mistaken in thinking that two animals came in when I called; or.... Naah.
