stoutfellow: Joker (Joker)
It's a pleasant Sunday afternoon, I've got a pot of Brunswick stew simmering on the stove, I have my dogs at my feet and my music on the player. I have a meeting with a student scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, but no other immediate obligations. (Well, I've got to get the dogs to the groomer, get my state ID renewed, find someone to dogsit during Father's Day weekend, and... do various other things, right, but for the moment I've got nothing to do but relax.)

Life is good.

(Dammit, there's the phone again.)

Album Title: The Best of Jefferson Airplane

Why I Bought It: For "White Rabbit", of course.

What I Like (Weird): "White Rabbit". The group did a number of drug-related songs; this is the only one that uses imagery that appeals to me. (It disturbs me slightly that I know the last verse pretty much by heart.)

What I Like (Driving): "Somebody to Love". The sheer energy of the song is its selling point, for me.

What I Don't Like: The rest of the album, for the most part. "Wooden Ships" isn't too bad, but Crosby, Stills, & Nash did a better version. For most of the songs, I don't get the message and don't like the arrangement.

Overall: This is one of the arguments for buying individual songs rather than albums. The counter-argument is that an album may contain unexpected treasures - which is wonderful when it happens, but didn't in this case.
