Oct. 24th, 2007 04:51 pmIf there is one thing Leonhard Euler is better known for than anything else, it is his virtuoso work with infinite series. That he came up with more ways of manipulating them than anyone before or since is not disputed. That his work was less than rigorous by modern standards is also not disputed. Both of these judgments, though, fall short of the full truth, and the next two or three Rambles will discuss the matter. More below the cut.
