Recuperation

Ben's back from the vet. He's much skinnier now that the fat's been sucked out, but he's wearing a shunt and something that looks like a T-shirt. The shunt will come out next Friday - I'll take him in at the same time as Murphy - but the stitches will have to wait another week and a half, two weeks. He has to be on soft food for the next few days, and I've got another little bag of medications for him.

There's still a little leakage from the shunt, despite the protective shirt; I think I'm going to have to buy new sheets. That, however, will wait until after the shunt's removed.

Ah, well, it's good to have him home again, and once he heals up I'm sure he'll feel a lot better than before the operation.

Jealousy

Because of the dental work, Ben has to be on soft food for the next few days, so today I went over to Shop'n'Save and picked up a dozen cans of Pedigree Choice Cuts in Sauce. I was concerned that Ben's appetite might be down, and I know he loves that brand, so.... It's kind of inconvenient - a dog Ben's size needs two cans of that stuff per day - but you do what you have to.

Unfortunately, Murphy also loves that brand. This evening I put out Murphy's usual helping of dry food, and brought Ben a bowlful of Choice Cuts. (Ben spent most of the day in the main bathroom; it's cool and quiet back there.) I spent the next ten minutes fending Murphy away from Ben's dish. Ben could do the job himself, but under the circumstances I thought that was a bad idea.

Sigh. No help for it; I'll have to feed Murphy the soft food too.

I love my boys, but some days are more stressful than others.
