My father was born about a year and a half after it came into being.
Tempus fugit....
Addendum: Whoops, whoops, whoops, I jumped the gun a little there. '89 was the year the Wall came down and the Warsaw Pact dissolved; the Soviet Union lasted another couple of years.
I stand by the sentiment, even so.
