I'm reading - or it may be rereading; I really don't remember - The Martian Chronicles. Now, this may be an artifact of memory - it's been twenty or thirty years since I read much Bradbury - but I'm struck by how depressing an author he is. Every story of his that I can call to mind by content ranges somewhere between melancholy and horrifying. The Sound of Thunder. Fever Dream (which scared the crap out of me when I was a kid). All Summer in a Day. Mars Is Heaven!. Pillar of Fire. The Veldt...
Am I guilty of selective memory? Did he write a body of upbeat stories, alongside these?

I read the Martian Chronicles and at least a few more collections of short stories. Good, but not happy!
