Final Installment

Sunday. Sunday was the day of the party. C had decided to make it baseball-themed; most of the guests showed up wearing Padres regalia, although there were a few Angels (C lives in Orange County) and, if I recall correctly, one Giant and one Red Sox(!). There were a handful of members of the extended clan present whom I'd never met, in-laws of one of my nieces. There was a game (there's always a game...), as a result of which I learned that I'm even more of a rag-arm than I was in high school. The food (yes, C) was plentiful, varied, and tasty. (One table was laden with traditional baseball fare: hot dogs, peanuts, Cracker Jack...) The highlight of the day was watching the Padres (on TV) beat up on the Angels to recapture a share of first place in the NL West. (A few of the attendees were distressed by the outcome; their upset moves me to say, HAH!)
And on the sixth day I rested. I didn't even look out the airplane window. The dogs were delighted at my return; I discovered, however, that Murphy had only piddled in the house twice - and the first may have been excitement - while I was gone, as opposed to the almost-daily misbehavior that preceded (and has followed) my vacation. I think maybe he's trying to tell me something.
Ah, well. Back in harness: Master's student on Tuesday, Senior Project student on Wednesday, Master's student again and a different SP student on Thursday, S's Master's thesis defense on Friday... Why am I not receiving a paycheck this semester?
