Which Goddess?
Mar. 14th, 2006 09:13 amSomething about the BSG finale just struck me.
Helo's and Sharon's daughter, the human/cylon hybrid: Sharon named her Hera. Maya, who has adopted the baby (without Sharon's knowledge; Helo and Sharon think the kid died), has renamed her Isis.
Hera was the queen of the Greek gods, and the original bitch-goddess. When Zeus went after a mortal woman, Hera would inflict a nasty vengeance on the poor rape victim. She had cause for anger, but it was always deflected onto the wrong target, and always disproportionate.
Isis was the queen of the Egyptian gods, and raised Osiris from the dead after he was murdered by Seth.
Somehow, especially in the light of the ending, I can't help but think that those names are meaningful.
