This is an interesting site: a database of graveyards where USAn politicians are buried. "Politician" is construed very broadly, to include, e.g., ambassadors. One tidbit: the graveyard in Sleepy Hollow, NY, not only holds the grave of Washington Irving (of course), but also that of Carl Schurz, one of my political heroes. Maybe a pilgrimage is in order.

Now we know where the bodies are buried.

Speaking of pilgrimages to graveyards--among other presidential assassination-related places--have you ever read "Assassination Vacation" by Sarah Vowell? It sounds like such a weird premise, and you start out just sure she's only going to play it for a shtick, but.... surprisingly thoughtful and insightful (and yes, at times, quite amusing). Terrific writer. Recommended.

I just looked at my "to-buy" file. There are just over a hundred books on the list now...

Ah. I know the feeling. How 'bout a mutually beneficial swap?

I'll lend you Assassination Vacation, and you lend me this one: Stephen Kinzer's All the Shah's Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror. We both get a good read for the price of postage there & back. Deal?

If so, we'll trade mailing info by email. (I have yours, but.... umm, somewhere... uh, I think, on the old computer.....)

Sounds like a plan. I'll want to hold onto the Kinzer until I have a chance to compose the second part of my review, but once that's done, sure. (It may be a while; I have quite a stack of grading to do as well.)

No rush atall. Since I overhauled the shelving system of the home library to add the Christmas-pressie new bookshelf, I was rather chagrined to find how much I've bought and not read yet (so then I systemized that, making mining for unread treasure much more efficient).

Trust me, it'll be quite a while before I am legitimately reduced to the bookaholic's most familiar plaint, "There's nothing in the house to reeeeeeeead!!!" Heh.

When I get new books, I corral them in the floor until read. [If they're put away before then, they disappear into the shelves & are never seen again.] Stacks tall enough to block the signal from the tv remote provoke a frenzy of reading and putting-away that leads to being days & days behind on LJ & the Bujold list. It's a sort of dynamic equilibrium, constantly behind on *some*thing, but with that something varying daily. :)
