"The Green Avenger"

stoutfellowAnother recent addition to my list of webcomics is a superhero comic, The Green Avenger. It's a nice mix of humor (even silliness, as witness GA's run-in with an angry goose), drama, and a bit of soap. It reminds me somewhat of early Marvel, especially "Spider-Man", although without bombast and with rather less angst. The artwork, especially in the first few strips, is a bit ragged, but it's improved quite a bit.
The Green Avenger is one of a quartet of girls, living in "Twin Cities, Midwestota", who developed superpowers in high school; she is now 22, having earned a B.A. in criminal justice. She can fly, is super-strong, and has limited invulnerability. (Only limited; she was shot in the leg while breaking up a bank robbery recently. After subduing the robber and accepting the thanks of onlookers, she flew off to a secluded spot where she could scream in pain for a while without disturbing anyone...) She has kept her civilian identity secret in general, but not from her family, who are accepting, even blasé about it. "No flying in the house, dear"...
Her closest friend goes by the alias of The Lavender Fey. (Yes. Ugh.) She has various psychic abilities, including telepathy, telekinesis, and pyrokinesis. She still lives with her mother, who is a nag and has not yet realized that it's unwise to kvetch at someone who is a) rather emotional and b) able to set things on fire with her mind. LF has been out of the biz for a while (and we've been given a rather harrowing explanation of that decision), but GA keeps urging her to get back in.
The third member, Magical Mabulon, has appeared only in the background in flashbacks.
The fourth... Well, let's use her own words. "I grew tired of being a superhero. My talents were wasted there. I mean, with a magic user, a psychic, and a flying powerhouse, a girl who can crush people's groins with deadly accuracy is just window dressing."
That's right. Her nom de guerre is... Lady Groincrush. "Every man in the cities knows my name... Even the mayor." I'll bet...
This looks like it'll be fun.
