Going Into the Red...
Jan. 3rd, 2006 11:35 amI paid another visit to Barnes & Noble today, this time for the non-books side of the store. I had to search a while to find the Serenity DVD. (SF? No. Action/Horror? No. TV (F)? No. TV (S)? No. I think I found it in the Adventure shelves.) The rest of the trip was devoted to CDs.
The thing about visiting a brick-and-mortar store, for books or any other kind of entertainment, is that you can find things you aren't looking for. On-line stores just don't have the same browsing capabilities yet. Here's what I came away with:
Chicago, Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago, recommended to me by
allyra;
The Guess Who, Greatest Hits (a bit of a gamble, since I don't recognize about half of the songs, but it's got "These Eyes", "Laughing", "No Time", and "No Sugar Tonight", which is a good start);
Annie Lennox, Diva (a bigger gamble; I bought it for the sake of "Walking on Broken Glass");
The Lovin' Spoonful, Greatest Hits (26 tracks, including "Summer in the City" and "Nashville Cats" among other goodies);
Mike + the Mechanics, Living Years (yes, I'm a sentimental sap. Sue me.);
Joni Mitchell, Hits ("Big Yellow Taxi", "Both Sides, Now", among others);
Buffalo Springfield, Greatest Hits (another gamble; I bought it for the sake of "For What It's Worth");
Blue Oyster Cult, Then and Now (yet another; I was watching my DVD of "Veronica Mars", episode 1, and I feel a great affinity for Keith Mars);
and ELO, The Essential ("Evil Woman", "Strange Magic", "Living Thing"... ahh, the memories).
There were three or four others that I was strongly tempted by, but my next Mastercard bill is already going to be enormous, so I forebore...
