Playoffs

I am, of course, disappointed by the swift exit of the Padres, but not much so; I wasn't really expecting them to get past St. Louis. The defeat of the Red Sox is rather more upsetting, but at least they fell to the White Sox rather than to the Yankees.

In any case, I am pleased by other things: that the Evil Blue Empire didn't make the playoffs; that Atlanta has been beaten, as of today, by the Astros (sorry, filkferengi, but any team which claims to be "America's Team" without actually, y'know, representing the whole country earns my undying enmity. The Cowboys are in the same boat.); and that the Yankees are hanging by a thread against the Angels.

[The Padres and Red Sox are my favorite NL and AL teams respectively, but I have some affection for the Cardinals, White Sox, Astros, and Angels - all, coincidentally, in the playoffs - as well. The Dodgers (ptui!), Yankees, and Braves bring up the rear.]

The Red Sox didn't last long, but they were sagging at the end of the season.

The Patriots did well enough (barely) today; good luck to your crew tomorrow. Considering the pasting they gave the Pats and the Pats beating Pittsburgh, they better do well. ;<) . .

Hey, fellas, chill. Remember the episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, when they found the cryo-frozen people from the 20th century? They thawed them out & cured them. The country singer was clamoring for the boob tube, claiming that, "after 300 years, I bet the Braves have found whole new ways to lose." We have that episode on tape, just for that line. ;)

Most people are thrilled just to have their teams make the play-offs. Atlanta fans not only get to see that most years, they get to see the infinitely varied and creative ways in which the Braves will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. :)
