Installation

Well, that went more easily than I expected.
This morning, I finally got around to buying a new DVD/tape player. I was dreading the installation, since it had to be connected to three other devices (satellite box, TV, speaker system), but the instructions were clear and, apart from having to move the speaker control box a little so the wires would reach, things went without difficulty.
The hard part was getting the stuck DVD out of the old player. I managed to remove the front plate after some effort, and then got the top cover unscrewed, but the DVD holder stymied me for a while. The DVD was held tight against the turntable by a plastic plate; pressing (gently!) against the DVD did no good. Finally, I got a screwdriver and my fingernails under the plate and managed to pull up on it, then find another couple of fingers to draw the DVD out. It appears undamaged, despite my clumsiness and Murphy's attempt to supervise. (After I shoved him away for the third time he grumpily sat down a few feet off and glared at me.)
System set, system working... we're in business. (I also picked up a pack of T160 tapes, which run 2:40 in SP mode, and the widescreen DVD of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'll probably watch that tonight.)
