Home Again, Home Again

Just a quick note: I'm back from Seattle. (Actually, I got home about three hours ago, but I immediately took a two-hour nap, a shower, etc.) I'll be posting a full report on CascadiaCon, probably tomorrow afternoon or evening. Briefly, I had a lot of fun, met a number of e-friends face-to-face for the first time, spent altogether too much money, and came home weighing 194 lbs. (Sigh.) The dogs did not eat each other or the house, the mail that came while I was away was inconsequential, and the weather here is beautiful (as it was, for the most part, in Seattle).

Back to work!

Don't ask (g). I think my brain got fried at the con. Caught some bug while I was there, too, I think. Better now, though.

Mm. My first reaction was "glad to hear it", thinking you meant the picture of Ben at the top... That picture a) is my winter morph, when I let my hair and beard grow out and b) is distorted a bit - I stretched it a bit more horizontally than I did vertically to make it fit the LJ guidelines.

On certain formal occasions - Convocation, Honors Day, Freshman Orientation - faculty members who attend (and we all have to attend some of them) are required to wear their regalia - in my case, doctoral robes. They are heavy, hot, and hard to arrange properly. (There's this so-called "hood", actually more like a stole, that hangs down the back and is impossible to drape cleanly without assistance...)

Ah. Sounds like Miles and his two swords. Or the robes the counts wore over their house uniforms in TWA. You have my sympathies. The closest I ever came to having to deal with something like that is a cloak I was given a few years ago that I think I've worn twice (which actually has more to do with the fact that it's made out of polar fleece and is too hot to wear 364 days out of the year here than anything else).

You and I would make lousy Renfaire fodder...
