I gave my colloquium talk this afternoon, and I think it went very well. The room (admittedly a small one) was nearly full - about 25 people in the audience, mathematicians and non-mathematicians alike. I had prepared it as a PowerPoint presentation (my first; one of my students gave me a quick tutorial on how to construct one yesterday), and was concerned that there was too much material, but it turned out that I had enough time for all the asides and parentheticals I wanted to include. Afterwards, there were plenty of questions, again from both mathematicians and non-mathematicians, all of which I was prepared to answer. We had some good back-and-forth on the relationship between pure and applied mathematics, and I also got to present some of the interesting theorems that are true in Lobachevskian geometry.

I am pleased.
