stoutfellowA bit of synergistic thinking, involving The Terminator, Pastwatch, and people bitching about Windows, has led me to a Theory.
The human resistance against Skynet didn't send someone back in time to make sure their great leader would be born; there were too many ways that could go wrong, as The Terminator and its followups have shown. Instead, they sent someone back further, to make sure that Skynet's operating system would be unstable enough that, when it tried to do anything sufficiently complex, it would crash instead.
That's right. Bill Gates is a man from the future, sent back to save us all from Skynet.
