Buster's been chewing on his foot lately, so today I took him to the vet. As the two of us were leaving the house, Gracie bolted between my feet. There I was, with one dog on a leash, racing after a second dog (not on a leash).... It being 9 AM on a weekday, there was no one puttering in their yard, shooting hoops, or anything like that; had there been, there would have been no problem - Gracie would simply have run up to them to beg for pettins, and I'd have retrieved her easily. After about a block of chasing, a car came around the corner; the driver stopped and opened her door, and Gracie trotted over. Capture was then simple. Of course, then I had to carry her back to the house, dragging Buster (who didn't want to go back just yet). Furthermore, the "click" of the door lock was ominously like the one the last time the lock went awry. (I didn't check it; I just dropped Gracie off in the back yard and took Buster on his way.)
The vet put Buster on a steroids/antihistamines regimen for a week or two; there's a faint possibility that there's bone involved, but simple irritation is much more likely, so we'll try dealing with that first.
Gracie's dental appointment is scheduled for next Tuesday. I'll have to get a doggy stroller between now and then - she won't be in any shape to walk when she comes out from under the anesthetic. I may use it for Buster as well, a week or so later.
