Sunday Music: ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits

Why I Bought It: I had one Elvis album, with about thirty songs; this one had literally no overlap with that, and had a number of songs I figured I ought to have in my collection.
What I Like (Spoken): "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" I think I've mentioned this a time or two before, but it's the spoken bit near the end (then they can ring the curtain down) that sells this one for me.
What I Like (Silly): "Jailhouse Rock". Yeah, it's dumb, but I like the thoroughness of the silly. The whole rhythm section was the Purple Gang!
What I Like (Warm): "Love Me Tender". I don't know what more to say; it's a comfortable and comforting song.
What I Like (Pleading): "Suspicious Minds". There are times when it's right to trust, and times when it's right not to. Telling the difference is hard. ("I know you. You trust beyond reason." "Yes, and I get results beyond hope." Thanks, Lois.)
What I'm Ambivalent About (Oversimple): "In the Ghetto". I really liked this song in my teens and twenties, but today it smacks a bit too much of limousine liberalism. "West Side Story" came closer to the truth, I think.
Overall: Well, it's a collection of #1 hits; what do you expect? I don't like all of it, but you can add "Heartbreak Hotel", "A Fool Such As I", "Can't Help Falling in Love", and "Crying in the Chapel" to the list of goodies. I can't name a song here that I definitely dislike. (Few of them actually move me, though. Can't have everything.)
