Album Title: The Cream of Clapton

Why I Bought It: Clapton has had such a long and varied career, with all sorts of notable songs, that when I saw this on the rack I had to grab it.

What I Like (Boogie): "Layla". This is the original fast version, from his time with Derek and the Dominos. Just good rowdy fun. Honorable Mention: "Blues Power"

What I Like (Feelgood): "Sunshine of Your Love". Love songs... come in acts. There's the pre-affair, all angsty; the delirious early stage; the comfortable midstage; and the late stages, as the affair breaks up. This one's from Act III, which is in some ways the best. Honorable Mention: "After Midnight".

What I Don't Like (Poor Cover): "I Shot the Sheriff". Honestly, I like Bob Marley's original better. Clapton's version is a little too smooth for my taste.

Overall: There are a number of other songs on this album that I like, but can't easily categorize. "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", "White Room", "Presence of the Lord", "Let It Rain" - they all just grab my attention when they come up. I'm not sure what to think about "Wonderful Tonight"; I'm inclined to like it, but enough people I respect consider it somewhat piggish that I can't put it on the WIL list. Overall, I like this album a good deal, although I do wish they'd included the slow version of "Layla", and also "Tears in Heaven"
