Chink in the Wall

I just made my first significant discovery in connection with my prisms problem (the one about non-simple closed geodesics). Granted, it's a very special subsubcase of Subcase 1 (out of three) of Case 4 (out of five), but it's a step in the right direction! (I have determined which configurations in that subsubcase are connected. Next step: feasibility computations.)

I've put the key insights into a Notepad file in my Dropbox; further investigation will probably have to wait until I get to campus tomorrow.

ETA: As is often the case, the key line of reasoning came to me in the shower. Maybe I should ask to have a shower installed in the office....
