Rocky Start
Sep. 9th, 2011 06:29 pmThree weeks into the new semester... I can't say things are bad; they're just chaotic.
Item: while setting up the online component of my calculus class, I inadvertently clicked on "Stewart, Calculus, 6ed" instead of "Stewart, Calculus with Early Transcendentals, 6ed". I didn't notice the error, and had no idea anything was wrong until I tried to enter a homework assignment on Section 2.6. A day or two later, someone from the provider e-mailed me, asking why I was using a different text from last year. It took another two or three days to get things straightened out.
Item: I previously mentioned the room-shift for my linear algebra class. One of my students offered me a box of whiteboard crayons, so I wouldn't have to rely on W.'s largesse. I tried them, but got colored wax all over my hands. Also, they were harder to erase than the markers. I did, eventually, get a set of my own markers from department stores.
Item: my calculus class has a computer lab associated with it, which meets for six hours (three two-hour shifts) every other Monday. I have a lab assistant to cover that. Unfortunately, next Monday he has to run up to Chicago to take care of a visa problem, so I'll have to handle the lab myself. That will put me on campus some five hours longer than usual that day.
Item: I've been called for jury duty, starting on the 19th. I've got people to cover my classes the first two days; with any luck, that'll be enough....
:sigh: Most days, I love my job. Today isn't one of them.
