All of my dogs - at least in my adult life - have been indoor types, for the most part. Still, I do have the back yard and the doggie doors set up so they can go outside when they want.

Murphy and, especially, Ben spent a lot of time out in the yard, at least if the weather was decent. Most days, when I came home, Ben was out in the yard watching for me. Buster and Gracie aren't like that; Buster watches through the bedroom window, if at all. Still, he at least does enjoy going out and basking in the sun, and will even brave the snows of winter at times. Gracie hasn't; with her stubby little legs, snow, high grass, or anything in that direction is a major discouragement, and even at the best of times she's not that inclined to spend time outside.

Until now. Monday, she found that mouse. (It was a mouse, not a baby rabbit.) Since then, she's been outside more than I've ever seen her - missing walks (twice now), treats, and others of her usual pleasures, for the sake of stalking vermin in the yard.

The Wild Has Called.

(At least, to the extent that it calls a female Yorkie....)
