Typealyzer

Oh, before I forget: I tried out the Typealyzer, which purports to do a Myers-Briggs analysis on the basis of what appears in a blog. Feeding it this address, I was surprised to be classed as ISTP, "the Mechanic".

I pulled out my copy of Kiersey and Bates to refresh my memory. It's been quite a while, but the last time I used their test I came out INTX (split decision on P/J on the last axis). K&B tell me that:
  • ISTPs thrive on excitement; they crave some excitement each day, in the form of fast motion - racing, sky diving, or surfing, for example.
  • The ISTP nature is most easily seen in their mastery of tools, tools of any kind, from microscopic drill to supersonic jet.
  • One tool especially attractive to the ISTP is the weapon.
  • ISTPs communicate through action, and show little interest in developing verbal skills.
  • Possessed of artisan intelligence, ISTP is not in the least interested in the clerical, interpretive, and "science" curricula that abound in the 20th century school.
Oh, yeah, that's me to a *tee*. :rolls eyes:

I was going to try this, but I don't see where you're supposed to type your blog URL in. Help?

Sorry, I gave the "About" page instead of the home page. I've corrected the URL now.

Thanks! Funny thing about this "analysis." I've never fallen on the extrovert side before [g].

Actually, after rereading the K-B descriptions, I see INTP as the best fit for me, so they're only off on one axis - but that one's a doozy!

heh.

I rather suspect your LJ is not at all representative of you. In particular, it doesn't at all represent your professional life. The Ramble is great, and perhaps represents some of your interest, particularly pedagogical, but we see the mathematician through a glass, darkly. Therefore, so does the Typealyzer.

*takes test*

Got ESTJ. Previous silly tests gave me IsTp and IsTj, p/j being near 50/50. E is clearly wrong, but I suppose the fact of the blog is evidence against . . .

This was much less painful than the others ;-)

I have data around here somewhere from about a year ago when I took a test that was supposed to sort me out a la Myers-Briggs, but I seem to have misplaced it. I can tell you for darned sure that I normally test off the introverted end of that particular axis, though [g].

It gave me "ESFP - The Performers". A professional Myers-Briggs test gave me ISTJ, IIRC. The Introvert was just about as strong as it can get, and I think the Thinking was unambiguous as well.

Let's just say....FAIL.

You have a point there. A LiveJournal persona is just that - a persona, more or less consciously constructed, and it shouldn't be surprising if it differs from the underlying personality.

Of course, there's also the fact that this thing's in beta.

And the fact that there's no particular reason to take it seriously in any case.

It's hard to take seriously something that mentions conflicting with someone's "self-percieved personality." That said, I got:

ESFP - The Performers
[ESFP]
The entertaining and friendly type. They are especially attuned to pleasure and beauty and like to fill their surroundings with soft fabrics, bright colors and sweet smells. They live in the present moment and don“t like to plan ahead - they are always in risk of exhausting themselves.

The[sic] enjoy work that makes them able to help other people in a concrete and visible way. They tend to avoid conflicts and rarely initiate confrontation - qualities that can make it hard for them in management positions.

There's some truth to the above, but it'd be easier to take these folks more seriously if they'd fix their own typos. But then, I suspect I'm preaching to the pedant on that one. ;)

Have fun at your family gathering; try to get in some good caroling!
