Did Andy make a fuss about her going? Meaning, I thought the relationship was maybe at a point where he'd cling.
Oh, I left something out. When Ephram found out about Linda's condition, he became very upset. He and Andy had a long and mature (hah!) conversation about what would happen to him and Delia if Andy became ill. Andy resisted at the time, but thought it over afterwards and broke up with Linda. (He still tried to cling, a little, but Linda basically told him to go home.)
