American Pie was pretty much a theme song of late high school for me, so I do remember him mostly for that, although I'm familiar with the Vincent song, as well. From what you've described of his music, it sounds as though he has a basically melancholy thematic approach in his songs. American Pie had a catchy tune, so the underlying theme of endings could be easily overlooked. Thanks for giving a good review of his songs; I'd never heard of the others.
