This week's entree has been a noodle kugel. My dictionary defines "kugel" as a kind of pudding, eaten as a side-dish or dessert; Moosewood puts it in the "Entrees" section. I suppose that if you make enough of anything, it's an entree. This one is, yes, a pudding, made from egg noodles, eggs, chopped apples, cottage cheese, cream cheese, and sour cream, appropriately spiced and sprinkled with bread crumbs; as usual, it's improved with age. (I made enough this time; I still have two servings left.) Good stuff.

I'm really rather pleased with my geometry students. We've just gotten into hyperbolic geometry proper, and they've been asking plenty of good questions. Two of the students are grad students whom I've had several times before - one of them is my current Masters' student - and they're performing as expected, but there are four or five more who are also absorbing the material pretty well. (There are always students who will mimic the smile and nod of comprehension, but very few can fake the abstracted look that goes with the real thing, with genuine real-time processing of what they're hearing. I'm seeing that look gratifyingly often this semester.)

The latest additions to my music collection are albums by Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, and Sade. I already had a few of Stevie's songs, from the Motown: The Classic Years album, but I didn't have, for example, "Sir Duke", "For Once In My Life", or "I Was Made To Love Her". I'm not familiar with most of Marley's work, but, having enjoyed the Desmond Dekker album I bought a while back, I thought I'd get a little more reggae, and Marley's the obvious place to start. As for Sade, I know a couple of her chart-toppers - "Smooth Operator", "The Sweetest Taboo" - and like them enough to take a flyer on the rest. I'll be paying a visit to Amazon this weekend and plan to order a few more CDs, after which it'll be time to reorganize my playlists again.
