In addition to raving about Fernando Tatis, Jr., I should probably spare a few words for the Padres' other phenom, Chris Paddack. Dennis Lin gathered some interesting numbers.

Paddack 2018: 90 IP, 2.10 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, .205 AVG, .237 OBP, .303 SLG
2019, to date: 90 IP, 2.70 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, .183 AVG, .236 OBP, .337 SLG

Now bear in mind: those 2018 numbers were at A+ and AA. The 2019 numbers are in the major leagues.

stoutfellow: My summer look (Summer)
Here at the university, we are normally paid at mid-month and end-month, by direct deposit, as long as we're on the payroll. I signed my summer contract on, I think, July 3. On the 16th, I checked the records.

My pay stub for July 16 was for $0.00.

OK, maybe there was some hangup; I decided to see what happened on the 31st.

Yesterday, I got a bill from CMS, the people who handle our health and dental; they wanted payment of the premiums for the entire month of July. OK, that's it; this needs explanation.

Today, I talked to the department secretary. She told me that my contract was still being processed, and I'd be paid in full at the end of the month. When I described the CMS situation, though, she was startled, and said she'd look into it.

A bit later, she came to my office and told me that, apparently, my premiums would not be deducted from my 7/31 paycheck, so I wouldn't take a double hit. I described some of the other times I'd tangled with CMS, and she commiserated; she'd had her own clashes with them.

So, OK, I can live with this, but CMS is not getting back in my good graces anytime soon. (I'm sure they're sweating bullets over that...)
