On a lighter note: as a Padres fan (yes, still, forty years after leaving SD) and a baseball fan, I frequently visit the MLBTR website, which tracks rumors and facts about trades, signings, promotions, and whatnot. Since the amateur draft a few weeks ago, they have regularly reported on the draftees who have signed with their new teams. In those reports, they have said jack squat about signings by the Padres. I know from other sources that the Friars have signed more than a dozen of them; I would not know this from MLBTR.

Some Padres fans believe the media are biased against California teams that aren't based in Los Angeles. This is probably not true; the Giants also get a fair amount of coverage.

Words, Words, Words

There is a theorem - a small theorem, maybe only a proposition. It is a simple theorem, an easy one, even an obvious one, but I have to write it out, proof and all, in detail, before I can proceed with the main body of Taxonomy II. It says where to look for isolated classes; the real meat is in the looking.

And I'm having trouble writing it. The words come lumpy, clumsy, too fast here, too slow there. Frustrating. I will not-think about it for a couple of days, then try again.

I just realized something about Civ 6.

If you're trying for a Cultural victory, it's a bad idea to conquer all of the other civilizations on your continent; if you do that, you won't get any Tourism points until you contact the other continents, by which time one of your rivals (curse you, Pericles!) may have piled up too many Culture points for you to easily overcome. (Playing as Gilgamesh, I'm producing far more Culture points than my three remaining rivals, but Pericles has plenty of them too, and the late start in amassing Tourism points is going to cost me.)
