Relocation

Today, I went onto campus to take possession of my new office. I got the keys from the secretary and spent a not-so-entertaining couple of hours unpacking the four large (~5' high) boxes containing my books and journals. I've just laid them flat and disorganized on the shelves; I'll get them upright and sorted sometime during the summer. The three small boxes contain miscellaneous reprints, files, and such, and I haven't yet bothered unpacking them.

The room is a bit smaller than my previous office, but it's well laid out, with enough shelving for my needs and a nice view. (It's on the second floor, and overlooks the region between Science East and Dunham Hall - green gardens, trees, a few flowers.)

There are, at present, no vending machines in the office wing of Science East, although there are hints that they will be installed at some point. I wound up having to go across campus to the University Center and its Starbucks.

On the second floor, office wing, there are two bathrooms, side by side, both of them women's. The same is true on the first floor, and in the basement. On the third (highest) floor, there are again two bathrooms; this time, one is a men's room.

I am all in favor of bathroom equality; I'm aware of how troublesome a shortage of women's rooms can be. This, however, is not bathroom equality. Putting the one men's room on the third floor just adds that extra bit of unpleasantness for these aging knees. (Yes, there's an elevator. It does not seem entirely reliable.)
