Oh, Andrew!
Oct. 27th, 2017 06:54 amOne of the books I'm currently reading on my Kindle is Andrew Lang's Red Romance Book. It's the same sort of thing as his Fairy Books, but with more literary sources, such as Laxdaela Saga, Ariosto, Cervantes, and Spenser.
At any rate, last night I read Lang's version of Amys and Amyle, a story about two cousins who were the best of friends and who looked so much alike that each could easily impersonate the other. At this point, Lang interjects, "Indeed, the likeness between them is supposed to have given rise to the proverb, 'A miss is as good as a mile.'"
It took me several beats to catch on.
Shame on you, Andrew! Shame!
