I just checked the messages on my answering machine; five were listed. The first is a message from my vet, which I haven't had time to answer yet and so have not deleted, so I hit "skip". The next message began, "Hello. This call is officially a final notice from the IRS," and went on to explain that the IRS was filing suit against me. At those words, I hit "delete" and went on to the next message. "Hello. This call is officially a final notice" #delete# "Hello. This call is officially" #delete# "Hello" #delete#

I can only shake my head. Are these people stupid, or do they actually catch people with this? And does sending four successive "final notices" on the same day not put people - even extremely stupid people - on notice that something's not right?

Sometimes (all right, often) I worry about this country.
