The Week That Was
Nov. 8th, 2015 04:43 amI've had worse weeks than the last one, but I've had far more better ones.
The cold I picked up at the beginning of the week kept me homebound for three days; on Wednesday, I did go onto campus and gave my calculus lecture, but by 6 PM - time for my geometry class - I had nothing left. I just collected their take-home tests and sent them home. I also managed to deliver a hoarse-voiced lecture in calculus on Friday, but basically the week was eaten by locusts.
The no-energy phase of the cold is over, but symptoms linger: headaches, nasal congestion, a phlegmy throat.... I haven't been sleeping well; I don't drop off until 11:00 or later, and wake up between 3:00 and 4:00. I'm having to take lots of naps, sometimes on campus. On top of all that, my electric coffee grinder died without warning. Fortunately, I have the hand-cranked one I bought after the ice storm in '06, but I can't keep using that for more than a few days - my arm starts aching after a while. I'll have to visit the Chef Shoppe sometime very soon. (The coffee I make with the hand grinder is quite a bit better than what the old Krups produced; I'm going to see if I can get an electric grinder that actually grinds, rather than chops, the beans.)
