Winter Is Coming

The weather has turned a bit chilly; I don't think we've seen the high side of 60F in two or three days, and there's no prospect of doing so for the near future either. I began growing my winter beard last week, and I've moved from Stubbly to Disreputable - which, unfortunately, is also the itchiest stage. It should be legitimately beardlike in another week or two.

My lawn-service company has stopped mowing my lawn for the year, too. The outdoor grill where I buy bratwurst will probably last another week or so before shutting down. The pear trees have dropped their minuscule fruit, though their leaves are still green.

I have to get a new windbreaker; the old one is kind of ragged, and coming home after 8PM Mondays and Wednesdays calls for better protection.

Ah, well. I chose to live in this area, and I accept the consequences.

Oh, NICE!

I'm sure that the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence is a perfectly good organization. But surely the homeland of C. S. Lewis could have given it some other acronym than NICE....
