Album Title: Different Light
Why I Bought It: Purely on a whim. I'd heard snatches of "Manic Monday", but knew little else about them.
What I Like (Silly): "Walk Like an Egyptian". Just a daffy little piece, but fun. (In my History of Math class, at one point I talk about the Renaissance discovery of perspective - which was mathematically inspired and had mathematical consequences - and I spend a little time talking about other ways people have tried to deal with the 3D problem, including Egyptian and Babylonian methods and, more recently, Cubism.)
What I Like (Plaintive): "Following". I'm not sure just what the singer is upset about, but it's heartfelt, with overtones of misplaced love, bad-girl behavior, and the like.
What I Like (Frantic): "Manic Monday". Just as busy a song as the situation it describes, and fun to listen to.
Overall: I can't say that the Bangles make it onto my faves list, but this is a pretty good album. Besides the songs above, I like "Walking Down Your Street", "If She Knew What She Wants", and "September Gurls", and I don't actively dislike - or even go "meh" at - anything here.
