Getting With the Program
Mar. 22nd, 2013 10:09 amThe things I ordered from Amazon earlier this week have all arrived. The four albums - by Nina Simone, Stan Rogers, Jerry Butler, and Johnny Rivers - have all been ripped onto my hard drive, and I've listened to a few of the songs.
Also arriving, on Wednesday, was Skyrim. That evening, I went through the (altogether too long) installation process - install, negotiate matters with Steam, download updates from Steam - and the (likewise overlong) opening sequence. Finally came the moment when the dragon attacked, giving me a chance to escape from my captors. I spent the next fifteen or twenty minutes running in circles, bashing into walls, climbing and falling off of staircases, and not finding any way out of the courtyard. (The mess was made worse by the ASDW setup for moving my character around. I've seen it before and even used it, but that was a long time ago and my nerves and muscles aren't attuned to it yet. I'll get used to it, I suppose.) I finally just quit. I have since learned that I was supposed to hook up with either of two NPCs, who would lead me to safety and set me my first Quest. I'll probably try the game again this evening.
The enclosed mini-manual is not all that informative; I've been poking around in the game Wiki, but that's not entirely satisfactory. Is there a player's guide (a la BradyGames) that someone can recommend?
