Sunday Music: The Best of Three Dog Night
Jul. 22nd, 2012 11:49 amAlbum Title: The Best of Three Dog Night
Why I Bought It: I already had their Joy to the World album, but it didn't have "Eli's Coming".
What I Like (Joyful): "Joy to the World". Jeremiah was a bullfrog.... Honorable Mention: "Shambala".
What I Like (Creepy): "Eli's Coming". I also have Laura Nyro's version; it's different in male and female voices. I file the tale of the mysterious and seductive Eli alongside Abba's "The Piper", Manfred Mann's "The Mighty Quinn" (although he seems more beneficient), and perhaps the Beatles' "Come Together".
What I Like (Cautionary): "Mama Told Me Not To Come". Yeah, it's kind of Afterschool Special-ish, but I like it.
Overall: This is a good album. "Liar", "Easy to Be Hard", "Celebrate", "The Show Must Go On" - a nice range of topics, mostly toe-tapping fun.
