Miscellany
Jun. 13th, 2012 07:33 pmEight days ago I had two extremely shaggy dogs. As of today, I have two shorthairs. They seem... livelier, somehow.
Last week, I went to get my state ID renewed. It had expired in January, and the state's website seemed to say that an expired ID was insufficient identification for the renewal. I meticulously gathered documents from Categories A through D, or as close as possible - Social Security card, birth certificate (in German), declaration of birth of a child to American citizens overseas, Certificate of Citizenship (a suspenders-and-belt item, from when I turned 17), utility bill - and tucked them into a file folder. In the event, the clerk simply accepted the expired card, sat me down for the picture, and handed me the new card. Three or four minutes tops, no hassle.
I just spent a good while on YouTube, watching videos of a number of old songs. (I cried through the "Edmund Fitzgerald" vid.) I've decided I need to add some Jimmy Buffett to my collection. (I was being earwormed by "Come Monday", but didn't know who the singer was. That, and his version of "Southern Cross", sold me.)
I'm reading Avram Davidson's The Phoenix and the Mirror, which I obtained at RenoVation. It's as interesting and quirky as Davidson usually is; this one's peppered with a number of multilingual puns.
Saladin ought to be one of my favorite Civ IV leaders. In fact, though, I find playing him to be remarkably frustrating.
Oh - no Sunday Music this Sunday, if it matters; I'll be out of town, for the clan's Father's Day / Father's Birthday get-together.
