Culture Wars
May. 9th, 2012 06:18 pmFor the last four election cycles, one of the most potent weapons in the arsenal of the radical right has been the culture war, and specifically the struggle over LGBT rights. This cycle, they have scored another victory, in North Carolina.
There is a line often attributed to Einstein, that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly, in the expectation that something different will happen. But in the social realm, there is another definition: doing the same thing repeatedly, in the expectation that the same thing will continue to happen. Every action changes the world, and the ground is shifting.
Today, President Obama told his opponents: you want to fight on that ground? Bring it.
