Sunday Music: Bad Animals, Heart
Mar. 4th, 2012 07:00 pmAlbum Title: Bad Animals, Heart
Why I Bought It: For "Alone".
What I Like (Musically): "Alone". Specifically, the transition from the end of each verse to the chorus - the tension, maintained for two or three beats, and then bursting into "Till now..." Also, the bit "I never really cared until I met you", where the singer's voice seems to be straining against the accompaniment. There's probably a technical name for that....
What I Like (Imagery): "There's the Girl". The line from the chorus: "There's the girl you were after / Broken glass, complete disaster". I don't know quite why that appeals to me, but Annie Lennox's "Walking on Broken Glass" uses the same metaphor and has the same effect on me.
What I Don't Like (Harsh): "Bad Animals". Oddly, the one song on this album that I don't like is the title track. I just don't see the point of it, and the music grates.
Overall: This was the first Heart album I bought, and I enjoy almost all of it. It doesn't rank quite as high as it once did - the other two Heart albums I own outshine it - but the group's sheer energy always appeals.
