(Yes, it's another Greatest Hits collection. They tend to cluster in certain parts of the alphabet; there are a couple of them down in the G's. We'll get out of this cluster after another couple of weeks.)
Album Title: 20 All Time Greatest Hits, James Brown
Why I Bought It: I don't exactly know; it was an impulse buy one Christmas. I suspect it was just, well, "He's James Brown, the Godfather of Soul. Why isn't he in my collection?"
What I Like (Boogie): "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine". The content is pretty crude, but it's danceable as all get out. Honorable Mention: "Get Up Offa That Thing".
What I Like (Nostalgia): "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag". Nothing in particular about the song in itself; it's just pleasant to listen to, and comfortable. An old-clothes feeling. Honorable Mention: "I Got You (I Feel Good)"
What I Don't Like: There's nothing here that actually repulses me. There's more than a whiff of misogyny, or at least chauvinism, here and there, I'll admit...
Overall: This is more background music for me than anything else. If I were assembling a playlist of favorites, I don't think any of these would make the cut, but if I call up a random list and one of these turns up on it, I won't object. Ear candy, sans content, for the most part.
