Well, October 1 was not a day of accomplishment, unless you count my Civ IV victory (playing as Catherine of Russia, and getting the highest score I've gotten since buying my new computer). I've been struggling with a slightly rough throat for several days now, and it got considerably worse today. I just brewed a cup of camomile tea, which should soothe it for a while.
I can't afford to miss any more days this semester.
On other fronts: since the convention, I've finished quite a few of my purchases - three L'Engles, four Nortons, and five of Leiber's Fafhrd/Grey Mouser books. I'm in the middle of Novik's Tongues of Serpents at the moment. I've mapped out the paper I promised my Master's student, and will begin writing it probably next week; I've also been exploring some further ideas in the same direction. Still have to finish up the first prisms paper.
On Wednesday, I'll be meeting with someone from MassMutual, trying to fix the mess in my retirement plans. The company I had my TDA with had its credit rating lowered about a year ago, and the university disallowed further contributions to the account. I'm going to see if I can roll the money from that account into a MassMutual account. (I also have about $10K in a TIAA account, which has been slowly building, without any further contributions from me, since my year at U of Arizona a quarter-century ago. I'll try to get that moved over too.)
I also should get the dogs over to the vet for their bordetella shots. I'm thinking of having them express Buster's glands while I'm there, to prevent a recurrence of last Christmas's little unpleasantness.

(Irrelevant thought: does anyone else remember reading a novel by Fred Hoyle, titled October the First Is Too Late? I think it was an SFBC selection, sometime in the late '60s, early '70s...)
