Some Random Things I've Learned This Week

1. The wonderful thing about teaching a class in a subject you haven't thought about in years is finally coming to understand the stuff you "learned" way back when. I now understand Van Dantzig's Theorem, which is a very nice theorem in homotopy theory, and which I was taught in early 1979.

2. AT&T's telephone robot is incapable of recognizing when it is talking to an answering machine.

3. By the time of Cherryh's Deceiver, there is a definite psychological resemblance between Cajeiri and Ari II. (Well, he's not human, and he has no sadistic tendencies, but other than that....)
