Weekend

It's been kind of a blah weekend. Of the things I planned to do, the only one that came off was a batch of pork stew. (Pretty tasty, and it should last me most of the week.) The Padres are on their way to being swept by the Mariners (being one of the few teams worse than the Mariners this year). I can't wait for next year: Rizzo, Darnell, Decker and Tekotte will probably all be in the starting lineup, and I look forward to that.

I've been playing Civ IV again, and getting frustrated as Saladin. Last time through, I was one turn from completing the Oracle when someone beat me to it. I couldn't back up and accelerate it either; I already had that city going flat-out on production, just barely making enough food to survive on.

I'm currently reading Middlemarch - technically a reread, but after thirty years, I'm counting it as fresh - and Temple Grandin's Animals in Translation. That one, I'm going to review when I'm done.

The prisms paper - now almost ready to send out - deals with simple closed geodesics, ones that don't cross themselves. I'm wandering, brow furrowed, on the edge of looking at the situation when they're allowed to cross themselves. Just vague, cloudy ideas about how to go at it....

Gotta shake the lethargy.
